Light Tackle Sports Fishing Cairns

June to September off Cairns, produce great light tackle Sports fishing for, Juvenile black marlin along with other sports fish, including Spanish Mackerel, Sailfish, and Tuna species.

Black marlin, Sailfish and different pelagic’s come to feed on the inner bait grounds inside the Barrier Reef on their annual migration to the south later in the year.

Light tackle grounds are only a 45 minute cruise out from Yorkeys Knob Marina and we will have you fishing up till 4 in the afternoon to get the bite on the either side of the tide change.

Line Class

Black label uses 6 to 10 KG line class for our light tackle sports fishing for black marlin and sailfish and this style of fishing can be enjoyed by the whole family and all age groups.

Corporate Charters

Corporate bookings are a great day or two for team building or just out with your mates having a great time on the Great barrier reef. This is a great way for young anglers to experience the thrill of catching their first billfish on light tackle.

Overnight Live aboard

Doing this has you on the bite each day these trips are 2 to 5 day sports fishing. Black label can have you anchored up each night off Fitzroy Island or one of the protected reefs off Cairns.

We also do fly fishing for both marlin and sailfish during the peak season of June to Mid September and then December to end of March.

These arial and acrobatic speedsters are a very fast growing billfish and the marlin are found around the 10 to 50 kilos in weight and make for great light tackle sport fishing on 4 to 10 kilo line class.

SailFish

The Sailfish is regarded as the fastest fish that swims in the worlds oceans,and is one of the most stunning of the billfish species and most visual in its attacking teasers and baits.

Other Game fish Species

Narrow Barred or Spanish Mackerel is an absolute line burner and is found on the inshore and outer reef edges. Different mackerel species are found all year round but more prevalent in numbers during the winter months.

The Wahoo is regarded as one the fastest sports fish that swims in the worlds oceans, and the stunning colours of the dolphin fish and its great eating quality makes them sort after captures amongst anglers along with the yellowfin tuna .
