Cairns Black Marlin History

Cairns Black Marlin Charter industry all started back in late September 1966 by a man named Captain George Bransford.

Along with his client they captured the first Giant Black Marlin off Cairns going 1064 pounds.

In doing this, and with many more captures, brought Cairns to the Game Fishing world and the size and consistency of big blacks between September and mid December each year

Extended Live Aboard

Black marlin fishing day on the reef

For a Giant Black Marlin fishing charter, we highly recommend 4 to 5 days or even up to a 10 day Live-Aboard on the Great Barrier Reef.

Because the bite time for the Giant Female Black Marlin, is usually whats called the afternoon bite from after lunch to late evening.

Therefore we fish right till the sun goes down or we are hooked up fighting into the dark which can happen on a big marlin.

Each evening after the days fishing Black label returns back in behind the safety of the Reef.

Snorkelling Activities

Light tackle fishing

Enjoy the evening festivities at anchor, watch the sun set over the reef and relax for the night.

A new day awakens us with a morning snorkel if you choose and then after breakfast we head off to do some light tackle fishing for fresh baits.

Other fish species include Wahoo,Yellowfin Tuna and Spanish Mackerel.

Reef fishing is done in the shallows for a nice Coral Trout for dinner and also chasing GT’s on the fringing reef edges and coral atolls.
